Below we have set out the important information from our insurance policy, roadside assistance, driver documentation, what happens before your trip and all about pick up & drop off.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Black Rock's Self Drive Hire Insurance
To give you peace of mind, we wanted to put together the most comprehensive, inclusive & flexible insurance policy we could find. That is why our all our Adventure Campers come with fully comprehensive Self-Drive Insurance as standard, and at no additional cost to you.

Our Insurance policies include the following key benefits:

​

  1. Unlimited Miles per day / trip

  2. Additional Passenger at no extra cost (subject to terms)

  3. Foreign use, enabling travel in UK & Europe.

  4. Legal liability for death or injury to any other person, including any passengers

  5. Public & Private Property Liability Protection, up to £5,000,000.

  6. Loss or damage caused accidentally, or as a result of malicious damage, fire and theft

  7. Windscreen repair / replacement.

  8. Personal Accident Benefits & Medical Expenses (up to £5000).

  9. Personal belongings: Up to £200.

  10. Emergency transport & accommodation.
     

Security Deposit & Excess Information:

As with all hire insurance policies, we require a security deposit prior to hiring our Jeeps. We want to be as transparent as possible so there are no surprises later.

​

If you are between the ages of 25 & 70, a £1000 security deposit will be requested from the card you book with, a minimum of 3 days before your trip starts. The £1000 covers the excess on the insurance policy and therefore if there are any accidental damages to the Jeep or equipment during your trip, the deposit will cover the excess for any claim made.

​

If you are younger than 25 (or older than 70), we will need to manually contact our insurance provider to set you up with a specific policy. The youngest we can accept bookings from is 21. Between 21 & 24, we will require a security deposit of £1500 as our excess on our insurance increases. Give us a call if you are are younger than 25 and we can work with you to organise the trip of a lifetime!

Black Rock Adventure Ltd are insured by MarkerStudy Insurance Services Ltd, through West Bay Insurance Plc. Authorised Insurers, registered in Gibraltar (Reg. No. 84085).

​

The Company is licensed and based in Gibraltar and is regulated by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission and subject to a limited regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority in respect of underwriting business in the UK (No. 211787).
 
Our insurance policies are brokered by Alan Boswell Group Ltd

 

Driver Documentation

Before you book, you should know we require some specific details from you to ensure your insurance is valid.

 

You must also meet some requirements to be insured, these are:

  • You must meet the specified age limits (see below) within our policy and have at least 2 years driving experience (Full UK, EU, AU, US, CA, NZ & SA licence types).

  • You must be aged between 21 and 75. There are additional details we require for drivers aged between 21-25 & 70-75.

  • We accept:

    • Two, 3 point convictions (i.e. 2x SP30’s, 3pts each) without referral.

    • Single 4 point offences without referral, subject to standard terms.

    • Single 6 point SP30, SP50 and CU80 convictions, subject to a £1500 excess.

    • All other 6 points+ offences will require referral to the insurers.

  • We cannot accept drivers with more than one fault or outstanding incident/claim in the last three years.

 

We require from you, prior to picking the vehicle up:

  • A copy of your photo card drivers’ licence (address & ID must be up to date).

  • A online DVLA licence check code (UK Driver only) – you can access that by clicking this link: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

  • Two proof of address from separate sources (see below)

  • A cleared a traceable security deposit (BACS, Credit/Debit Card, PayPal, etc.). The standard deposit amount is £1000 and card details are taken at the point of booking. 
    We can only accept a security deposit from the named driver on the booking.

  • A signed rental agreement (signed at the point of booking).

Valid proof of address options (at least 2 of the below):

• Electricity (bill/statement)
• Water (bill/statement)
• Gas (bill/statement)
• Broadband/Landline
• Council tax
• TV licence
• Bank Statement
• Credit card bill / statement
• Mortgage statement
• Polling card
• HMRC self-assessment / tax credit
• Student loan
• Payslip
• Mobile phone bills
• Pension letters
• Car finance statement
• Loan statement


An annual council tax bill will be accepted. All other documents must be dated within
90 days of the hire date.

 

The address & name on your licence must match both documents.

We only require photos of your drivers licence and proof of address. These can be uploaded on our booking system or emailed to us at info@blackrockadventure.co.uk.

​

If you plan to take our Jeeps into Europe, from 1st August 2021, Green Cards will no longer be mandatory for driving within EU. We will need to arrange a VE103 certificate for drivers.

What happens after booking?
What Hapens After Booking?

For us, it is essential that your experience with Black Rock starts the moment you make the booking. You have committed to creating an adventure like no other, and we are here for that!

​

After you have paid your reservation amount and signed the terms of contract for the hire, we will reach out to confirm the booking. You will have had an account set up on our booking system (Wheelbase Pro) and we can now communicate with you through that.

​

At any point after booking, you can reach out to us to discuss your trip. We are here solely to help you craft an incredible adventure in the UKs wild places, so do not hesitate to ask us anything.

​

Two weeks before your booking, the preparation begins. We will send you an email crammed full of hints, tips, kit recommendations, links to equipment set-up videos & more. Being properly prepared is the best way to ensure you have the best time and so we will give you everything you need to familiarise yourself with our jeeps & kit in advance. At this point, we will also reach out to organise a call to discuss your route & experience if you have selected one of our adventure experiences or epic roadtrips.

You will be asked to pay the outstanding amount of the booking at this point, and before one week prior to the trip start date.

​

With a week to go, we will email requesting payment (if you haven't already paid up) and will request the documentation require to ensure you are insured. You will be able to send this information via email or uploaded to our booking system via your account.

You will also be reminded that the security deposit will be taken from your account 2 days before the trip start date.

Its nearly time for your adventure to start!

The day has arrived! We are located in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire 15 minutes form the M25 and walking distance to the London Euston to Birmingham trainline.

When you arrive, give us a call and we will be waiting for you, feel free to have a coffee (we will offer it!).

At this point, we can enable you to get going as fast or as slow as you want too. If you have pre-watched the set up videos then you might have many questions at all and just want to hit the road. Alternatively, you may want us to walk you through some of the key equipment, hints, tips & troubleshooting to ensure you are fully ready for the adventure ahead.

We will walk you through a vehicle condition report and check fuel levels, before asking you to sign it to agree to the condition prior to you leaving. At this point, we recommend you also take photos & jot down details of the Jeep & equipment condition. We will also point out the Handbook which has everything you need (from Emergency details to Roadside Assitance & visual set up instructions).
 
We will take your car keys (or a second key), storing in them a seperate safebox. If we need to move your car we will, but its unlikely we will need to while you are gone.

After your epic trip, we will greet you back at the same location on drop off day. We will quickly whizz around with you to check the condition & fuel levels and as fast as you can unpack, you can be on your way. Your security deposit will be released from your card in the following few days, and for then at least, your adventure ends (until you book your next one!).
